The Ministry of Riverwood

Riverwood is a ministry designed to meet the needs of adults who have developmental disabilities. The goal of Riverwood’s ministry is to help mentally handicapped residents achieve their highest level of independence. The ministry is centered on guiding the residents in developing social and personal care skills in a Christ-centered environment.

CCC Mission Team to Riverwood – Our Ministry to Riverwood

Our goal will be to offer a fresh face and the prospect of friendships for the residents. Our very presence will offer “something different” for the residents and will give them a sense of “pride” as they take our visit to their home very seriously. The residents are limited to what they can assist with in regard to contributing to the overall care of the facility, and it is for that very reason that Riverwood relies on outside groups to help with the physical maintenance of the home. Our group will be working on various work projects each day while the residents are at work, a sheltered workshop, or involved in a day program. Another goal of our trip is to offer encouragement to the Riverwood staff. Their job is demanding and one of our goals will be to refresh and to restore them mentally, physically, and spiritually.

Travel Plans / Cost

The trip includes a day to travel to Knoxville (Saturday, August 6th), a day to spend quality time together as a mission team (Sunday, August 7th), 3 work days/evenings at the home (August 8 th, 9 th, 10th), and a day to travel home (Thursday, August 11th). Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge are being considered for the day of Sunday, August 7 th.

The cost of the trip is $185.00. This includes EVERYTHING…meals, housing, travel, etc.

How do I register for the trip?

The trip will be limited to the first 20 participants. We will begin taking deposits at the CCC Welcome Center on Sunday, March 13 th at 9:00 a.m. The first 20 people to get their $40.00 deposit will be registered to go. Deposits must be given to AMY FALLEN (ONLY) so that she can personally keep track of those who are planning to participate. A waiting list will be compiled after the first 20 spots are filled. We are limited on the amount of people we can take due to the limited space at Riverwood during meals and evening activities. We reserve the right to maintain a healthy ratio between students and adults attending the trip. Our “ideal” trip would include 10 adults and 10 students. Students who wish to participate MUST have completed the 9 th grade.
